Anybody tried vacuum food sealers as a source of vacuum? I have no idea how good of a vacuum they produce but I would not be suprised if they were better at it than shopvacs.

Plumb the inlet to your air compressor to a hose, and I'd bet you could pull some serious vacuum. A cylinder can suck harder than a fan.

George, did you happen to experiment with any of those 'space saver' type bags? Or decide it was not worth it? I'm in the middle working up a vacuum setup of my own and was hoping you could validate or nix this idea.

And Gary, your right. In fact this is one of those rare times when working on a project that I hope when I'm done the whole thing REALLY SUCKS !

          Thanks,
          BobL.

i am still getting the parts together to build the pump. I made the mistake of asking two engineers their input and they have been "tweaking" it ever since. I will let you know what happens if it ever get's out of the design stage.

Your problem was asking two engineers. It's a law of nature that engineers in any quantity > 1 can't agree on anything. [)]
