    Q on Alder please

I stopped by a local BMC shop that makes doors. I asked about their scrap. They brought a pallet to the dock and I started putting it in my Explorer. There is a pretty good quanitity of Alder, Oak, clear Pine, and some Poplar. What are the pluses and minuses of Alder? It is a really good looking wood. It does go throgh the planer very nicely. None of this wood is over 4' long, but lots of 5/4 stuff. Thanks for any info.

I used it to make the following table for my MIL.

It's soft and dents easily, but I like using it. It also blotches when you stain it. . so you need to do a bit of sealing before staining.
