Seems like this is a worthwhile item to have or maybe two of them so was wondering what you guys think would be the best material to use on the bottom of a homemade one. The only thing I can think of is the rubber type stuff router users use to route stuff on when they don't want to clamp the project down with clamps. What all have you guys used or heard about.

I use a rubber-bottomed masonry float. Already has wooden handle, 4x10 base, with 0.5" rubber pad on the bottom. Cost about $5 at a hardward store. Works great. Looks like this:

The router pad material would be fine you can buy rubber shelf liner for less money and it will work just as well. You could also just buy push blocks for not a lot of money. I think I paid about $3 for mine._________________________

I picked up some peel and stick 1/8" foam pads at a yard sale to put on the DC ports of some of my tools. Thanks for the idea for the rest of them.Don, aka Pappy,

I used adhesive-backed foam weatherstrip for my push pads. It's about 1" wide and 1/8" thick.
For my push shoe I used adhesive-backed rubbery anti-slip stair tread stuff (ask for it by name! [
)]).

I knew you guys would come up with something. I just couldn't think of anything except, well actually I still can't think of anything so thanks for the help. Those mouse pads sound great as we have several of them at work just sitting there. Great idea thanks Ken for that one and the rest of you too. Spray adhesive? Hmmm, might have to check that out too thanks Mike.May you die and go to heaven before the Devil knows you're dead. My Best, MacComment

Well, it was settled for me today when I went over to Woodcrafters. They had the orange plastic ones that I'm sure everybody has seen one time or another for $4.00 apiece and I thought Hmmmm, for 4 bucks what the heck. I am now the proud owner, well maybe not proud but I am the owner of two of them. But next time when I don't have a hundred other things I need to do or build I will make my own and remember these answers. Thanks everybody.May you die and go to heaven before the Devil knows you're dead. My Best, MacComment

Lee, those are excellent push blocks. Unless I need a large one I don't waste my shop time making them, better things to do, IMHO.

Yeah Ken I agree. I've got way to much other stuff to do but it's good to know that if I ever do need to make one I'll know what bottom material to use. Thanks for the reply.May you die and go to heaven before the Devil knows you're dead. My Best, MacComment
