Hello everyone. Well, I am this close[)]to getting a 3100. So do I pull the pin now or wait a bit to see if the accessory kit offer comes back. I have all the tools that I really need, hand saw, sandpaper, planes, chisels, hammer and a Yankee Drill. Now all kidding aside, lurking in this forum has been a blast, but time to participact.

Is the accessory kit worth waiting for?

I bought the accessory kit, it wasn't free when I picked up my bt3, it wasn't worth the money. The casters are useful, as I don't move the saw very often. The miter slot is useful, but you can get it alone. Pretty much everything else was pointless. I had my router in the accessory table for about a month, then moved it to a stand alone table. It was ok in the accessory table, but you'll want a better fence than the back of the table saw fence.

I love my bt3, but you might want to also check out the delta that some home depots have on clearance, seems like a darned good deal.

If you do decide to get the BT3100, the accessory kit, is a mixed bag, the only real item I found is the dual miter slot that would come in handy. Of course, others would have differing opinions. You can purchase that item separately. Keep all receipts, and the upc on the box just in case, weirder stuff has happened.

You can read plenty of pro-and-con comments right here as well as elsewhere about the BT3100, so you're well informed.

You can get detailed and specific answers to your technical questions here from people with years of experience with this system.

Come on, jump in. Where's the downside? Admit it, you're pre-sold. The kit is not entirely without value. I wouldn't wait for it, though. There's just too much to do and too little time. You'll probably outgrow and upgrade most of the kit items before too long anyway and you won't miss them. ("If only I had my original casters. Sigh." -- Ain't gonna happen.)

I'm in agreement with the other posts. About the only thing I found really useful in the accessory kit was the mitre slot table and the t-nuts and knobs that came with it. You can frequently find these items here in the bargain alerts section or on ebay. If I were you I would not be waiting. Go for the saw now!

Made the move two weeks ago! Jump in you won`t regret it.
I am amazed at how it makes up for my lack of skill!
It did not take me long to wish I had got the casters, but you could pick them up at a hardware store for about $10 or less.
My Brother-in-law gave me a Radial Arm Saw stand with casters on it, yesterday. Two bolted right on the BT Stand, and the two with the lift built in will only require drilling 4 holes to fit.

I think it is false economy to not have an outstanding tool for sometime because there might someday be a freebie linked to its sale.

One more thing Alex

Whenever you buy it, you have a 30 days window! and the sooner you buy, the sooner you can make saw dust (unless your shop is under snow and you cannot get into it anyway!!??)

A few other reasons to make the plunge are:

1. The Shark guard was designed for this saw and looks really, really cool on top of it.
2. You can paint the red line.
3. You will have access to the official BT3 thong. Don't ask me about this, not my cup of tea, but it's out there, somewhere.
4. Oh, and it does a really good job of accurately cutting wood. Look at the finished projects if you want an idea of what you can do with your new saw.

I'm in the same position as you .... wanting to buy .... hoping for the accessory kit freebee. But, I'm starting to build my own router table (that was about the only thing I was sure I was going to use from the access kit). And, it sounds like a mobile base is much better than the casters if I'm going to move the saw regularly (and I will be). My only decision now is to wait for a Cummins Tool Truck sale, or go on down to the BORG and pick-up a new one ......
