Edit: I think I've had one of those doh moments. I just realized the glides has plenty of places to screw into and I could just alternate them. If not I'll just try the smaller screws as suggested.

I wouldn't compromise the integrity of the proper length screw like using 1/4". The screws I buy in bulk are 13/32" under the head, for 3/4" carcasses. For 5/8" dividers I have used a 5/16" length screw when it is very critical. They can't be spun in fast as it's easy to strip them out (overspin). I bump them in with a cordless, on slow speed. Even with the longer length used on 5/8 material, they rarely hit point to point.

Most full extension side mount slides provide multiple groupings of 3 holes spaced on the slide. Usually there's a slotted one for vertical adjustment, a slotted one for horizontal adjustment, and a round one for fixing. If you alternate screws on divider sides, you may not end up using the holes you may need.
