    question on table saw

Is the BTS 21 a portable model of the BT 3000 ?
Would the BTS 21 be a good first time table saw ?

I plan on making small boxes and small display cases, the kind you see at flea markets. But I want to build larger projects as my ts skills get better.

    Thank you

No, the BTS21 is a different animal. It's direct drive vs. belt drive, along with a bunch of other differences.

Best bet is the Craftsman clone, the 21829, the equivalent of the BT3100.
You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...

Unless you absolutley must have a brand new saw keep you eyes peeled on your local CL. BT3s come up periodically in most markets as do lots of other quality saws.
You can find bargins but you should check they are in good order.

I absolutely recommend the Craftsman 21829. Especially since you dont have alot of experience with table saws, the adjustment from a conventional ts to one of these will be easier. I had the bts-21 and quickly returned it to get the Craftsman and will never go back. Not that they are a beast to use or anything, but there are some slight differences.

Besides, any problems or questions you may have probably had already been covered in this great forum and can be found with a quick search. Some of these members have had them since day 1 and their knowledge of these saws is astounding. Get a copy of the FAQ and youll see what I mean.

        Good luck!
