Steve, if you're not already doing so ... develop the habit of working out your clamping strategy before you uncap the glue bottle. You can do this as part of your last dry-fit. Always, I lay out all the clamps I'll need, figure out where they'll go, and open them up the appropriate amounts. Often, and especially with a complicated glue-up and/or an oddly-shaped assembly, I'll go so far as to actually put the clamps onto the dry-fit assembly, to verify that they're all going to work in harmony and without interfering with each other.
It takes extra time to do this, of course, but it really helps avoid unpleasant surprises while the drying-glue clock is ticking.
