    recycling old lumber

Saw this ad on CL and was wondering how hard it would be to recycle the lumber below. What would I need to do. I figure I'll need to plane it but should I do something first as to no dull out my blades so quickly. It's pretty beat up at least the surface seems so. Is it even worth trying to recycle it or should I just stop being so cheap and just go to the lumber yard ?

    From ad...
" App. (6)3x8x20, + additional 100' of 3x & 4x material of varied lengths, all smooth 4 sides, Doug Fir, #2 or better, some rot.

Stickered, but stored outdoors for past 7 years, great for shoring or resaw for trellis stock.... "

Fir is pretty soft (similar to pine), so I'd probably just brush the dirt off with a stiff brush and send it through. The only thing I would be concerned about is how much rot there is. Too much and it might not be worth the time, let alone money.

If at first you don't succeed, deny you were trying in the first place.

Get a metal detector There are probably a lot of nails in it.

I wouldn't even think about trying to sell something like that. If I didn't burn it Id throw it out. Maybe I throw to much away. I try to get rid of a truck load of junk at least every few months. I don't know where it all comes from.

Just from the pictures, I would pass on it.

We recycle cypress that is in WAY worst shape than that. Matter of fact we have to keep it lock up because it will get stolen. Ill get some pics of what the wood looks like to start with but heres the end result of some recycled and pecky cypress.

Like Crockett said get a metal detector.
Almost everything i make is from reclaimed barn wood.
The only blades i worry about are the planer blades.

I buy cheap blades for the table saw when i,m cutting old wood.
If it wasn't for reclaimed wood i would be out of business.
              This is from reclaimed wood.
They cost about $ 20.00 each to build.
