Ofna89, as a fellow newbie, I've really appreciated your posts the last few weeks, and am glad to see you tried out the Jet 708315btc so that I don't have to.

Have you, or anyone else, have some good guidelines for buying a used TS? I know there is a nice article here on BT3Central on inspecting a used BT3K, but what about other brands?

I'm really in the dark here, so any pointers, links, book titles, etc. would be graciously received.

Im still in the dark also. That Jet wasnt a bad ts, all depends on what your looking for. Miter was very sloppy and fence was out 1/8 or so. Lots of people here says to save the money or look for a use 3100. Right now Im waiting on a e-mail for a used 3100 somewhat close to my location. Ill wait to see what happens with that. If it doesnt pan out Ill still be looking. Can you tell me where you found that post on what to look for when buying a used 3100? Thanks

I bought a used Craftsman TS from CL too. It looks just like my dad's, which he's had since I can remember. Note that the table saws will say 2 or 3 HP on the front, but the motor itself shows only 1 1/2 on a lot of them. That's because Craftsman notes peak HP or something like that. Kinda like HT amps.

You want to check to make sure that the arbor runs smoothly on a used TS. Disconnect the belt from the motor and spin the blade. It should run smoothly, or the bearings could be damaged. Also check for play perpendicular to the blade surface. Don't worry too much about the table surface, unless it's pitted with rust.

A couple things I did that helped: I completely tuned the entire saw. Not easy, I had to detach the (HEAVY) top from the lower assembly, line it up, and reattach it. I also changed out the stock pulleys and belt with machined pulleys and a link belt. Woodcraft carries a kit that has both the pulleys and the belt. I also bought a used Beisemeyer fence + Powermatic rails for a little over $100. If you can't find a deal on that, a T2 fence is fine too. Lowes has the T2 fences seperately. Sears sells Beisemeyer fences as well.

As a matter of fact, I didn't get much rest that night. I just was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, so that is bothering me, so I am irritable, me bad.

There were two BT (a 3000 and a 3100) on Craigslist here in Orlando at the beginning of the week. If you keep watching, I'm sure something will come up. Just be ready to go get it as soon as its posted.

Just a line to maybe help you raise your spirits a bit. A friend of mine is getting over prostate cancer surgery and he says the anticipation was the worse part, and having "cancer" just a horror. But, after the docs used the modern techniques of this boroscope type thing on him, like four bullet holes in his stomach (he laughs about it now) he is really doing well and is "cancer free!" I wish you well with your treatments, and hope you find some solace in my friend's experience. If you want to get in touch with him, just let me know. Thanks for the kind words.
This past August my brother had his prostate removed along with some lymph glands.
I thought been a while since I had my prostate checked. So I took a PSA test and results were sky high. Also had the "Fickled finger of fate" exam too. Will learn more after the New Years. I have to go back again, and retest.

I plan on seeing it through. At this time my doctor is pretty optimistic, and hopes we can come through this ok.
For you guys over 50, if you haven't had a blood PSA test, or prostate exam, do yourself and your family a favor, and get checked out.

Well, Hoover, I did have mine. The whole shebang, if you know what I mean. She, yes my doc was female, found/got rid of three "pre-cancerous" little whatever they are called. And, yes, men should have their prostate checked after the age of 50, I agree. Again, best wishes for you.

I probably can't be of much help....but I did see a used Bt3000 the older version of this saw the other day on ebay, don't remember the price
right now but I think it was reasonable....less than your $300.00 mark.

Just go to ebay and type in BT3000 or Bt3100 and if anything is there
it should show up quickly. If you don't find one or the price is too much
keep checking here regularly...several members have gone over to the "dark side" and bought other saws and are selling their older ones at reasonable
prices. Hope this helps.

Might also check some other ww sites that have member listing areas
that sell used saws and other equipment listed there, ex: woodnet,
Ridgid or others. eezlock
