What size air hose for paint sprayer?

I recently was given a brand new paint sprayer and was thinking about trying spray painting for the very first time. Would I need larger then a 1/4" hose for this? I know my compressor is adequate so it's only a question whether the hose is.

Depends on the type of spray gun, you could get by with 1/4 ID hose if gun is a conventional gun because pressure at the gun in the deturemaning factor for finish atomization. With a hvlp gun the cfm or volume of air is the critical factor involved therefore 3/8 hose is the minimum acceptable for proper atomization of finish material, also any fittings or air gage used at the gun need to be sized properly also. With a conventional spray gun the transfer rate of material being sprayed is about 35 to 40 %, with a hvlp gun that figure goes up to about 65 to 70 % there less overspray in the air and less usage of material. Hope this helps.
