    Laminate-Covered MDF

I have an opportunity to buy cutoffs of MDF that has laminate covering on both sides. Widths from 1/1" to 3/4". Widths around 2' and lengths to 8'.

I know I could use this stuff for shop tabletops. Is it a suitable substitute for masonite? Can the exposed edges be sealed like regular MDF (glue)?

I just bought 200 square feet of plywood cutoffs from the same cabinet shop for 50 cents per square foot. It's seven ply, withe the same kind of super-thin face plies I've seen on big box hardwood plywood, which was a big surprise. It does appear to be better quality than the Chinese "birch" I bought a year ago that warped badly during our rainy season, but not what I expected from cabinet grade stuff.

The double faced MDF could have many uses. Sounds cheap enough to replace masonite which would need a substrate for a bench top. Could be used for infeed/outfeed tops for the TS, build shop/storage cabinets, etc. You can seal the edges with glue, poly, or laminate.
