I am wondering how to attach a piece of wood to my fence so i can use it with my router.

My old saw had holes through the fence to attach a piece of wood but the 3100 does not.

Yup, t-nuts are the answer. One of my favorite things about the BT3K is the slots in the fences and rails that allow you to use T-nuts to attach things almost anywhere.

Somewhere on the T-nut site is a chart that shows what size nut you need for the various slots, but I can never find it anymore. But if you click on each size of nut, it will list where it fits.
