    finishing a rocking chair question?

    Hello,
I am getting ready to finish a rocking chair for a buddy that doesn't like finishing. The stain he wants to use is a waterbased stain. I plan on spraying the poly with my HVLP. I have only ever sprayed oil based poly with it. I usually cut the oil poly by 25% with mineral spirits when spraying. Do I need to cut the water based poly for spraying? Also is a oil poly or water based poly better for a rocking chair? Any other methods other than spraying that would possibly work better for this project?

    Thanks for all the advice

I got advice from Jeff Jewitt who is a widely recognized expert on finishing my rocker. He recommended I rub on waterlox as a finish. He also recommended I sand the 2nd coat while wet to act as a filler. I plan on taking his advice but experiment on some scrap first.

Got this rocker in pieces off a junkpile and had to rebuild. Using a conventional spray gun, used waterbased poly satin finished, thinned about 10%.
