    Kreg DVDs any good?

Has anyone tried out the Kreg pocket hole DVDs? There are a few on Amazon on sale this weekend. Comments? If you have one do you have them all or are each unique?

    Thanks!

I built my router table using a Kreg video and loved it.

I just bought the router table DVD because it was on sale at Amazon and I was getting some other stuff anyway.

I was a little disappointed because the first thing he said was "buy a router table top." To me, that makes this a "build a router table cabinet" dvd not "build a router table."

And if you know how to use the kreg pocket screws, a drawing of the cabinet would pretty much tell you everything you need to build it.

Having said that, I don't regret the $5.99 - partly because I plan to build a very similar cabinet after I build the router table top and partly because I have no time to build anything so I live vicariously by reading this forum and watching NYW and this DVD.

Looking at the back cover of the DVD shown on Amazon it looks like a well thought out cabinet, with the two sliding multi-tier bit holders.

        Ya, they could definately add
"Take 2 pieces of 3/4" MDF slightly larger than the base and cement them together. Cement a piece of laminate of choice on each side. Band edges if desired. Cut a square hole to fit plate." See? It took 15 seconds.

I have several of the Kreg DVDs and it really did help me understand how the system works so I can design my own stuff with some confidence. I know there are probably experienced woodworkers who already have the feel for how things go together but as a new woodworker, it really helped me visualize projects. A small page of line drawings didn't motivate me the way watching the DVDs did.

I just got the DVD of all the Kreg plans today. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Ask me in a few days and I'll tell you how it is.

Jeffrey, you've obviously missed the point of the DVD. Not once did you mention a KREG POCKET SCREW or a KREG POCKET SCREW JIG! Glue? What's GLUE?!

Well, I ordered this one too (Router Table DVD) and I'll see if its useful for me. As a begginer I am sure I'll get something out of it, if nothing else I maybe won't have to read the Kreg instruction manual.

            Thanks for the help!

That did not bother me at all, I had already gotten a piece of counter top and a router mounting plate. What I really liked was the step by step instructions with the little tricks to make it easy. I also altered the plans by not going with the casters but instead built a solid base since it will not be moved. I also used brackets that allow me to lift the top and lock it in place when changing bits and setting the bit height. Here is how mine came out.

Not to beat this topic to death... I was just expecting something like Norm's router table show/DVD where he went into building the top and the fence in addition to the cabinet. Because the top and fence were pictured on the DVD cover, I assumed there'd be some instruction. No biggie, I was just surprised. Maybe it's just a newbie misunderstanding of what all is included by the term "router table."

But after rewatching the dvd I would upgrade my opinion and say it is a very good guide for building the cabinet itself. Especially after rewatching the Norm dvd. Norm's is definitely more complex and intimidating for a beginner without a full shop of tools (and a router table to help build the router table!)

I didn't get the promised "cut list and exploded diagrams." Did anyone else?

I think your complaint is legit and I may have sounded like a smart ace there. As prior poster mentioned, the top just doesn't involve PHJ so I guess they chose to skip it. I absolutely believe they should change the title of the DVD, as well as the photos. It is misleading.
I am probably going to take my phenolic top out of my TS wing and build a base for it. I get tired of taking the RT fence on and off so my TS fence will clear it. I may get this DVD as well. Or anyone want to sell there used one?
