    DC Fittings- Where to find.

I want to hookup my HF dust collector using 4” PVC {schedule 20? the thick wall type”. The problem is I can’t seem to find the correct size fittings that will glue into the PVC and mate with the 4” flex hose. Can anyone give me a company and part number? Are there 4" blast gates that would also mate"?

    Thanks

ABS dust collector fittings that mate directly with PVCs are not readily available. The inner and outer diameters of the ABS do not correspond well with the inner and outer diameters of the PVCs.

S&D PVCs are better suited for a dust collection setup. S&D are lighter and have thinner wall. You can connect a flex hose to it and attach ABS fittings at the other end of the flex hose.

I used the green S&D pipe and the 4" Delta fittings slide in snug.

i have found at lowes, ace hardware etc that they carry adps from sch 20 wsd pvc to sch 40 pvc. my set up rund 4" and the 3" sch 40 pipe couplings fits very well inside the flex hose and i use street ells off of the dust hoods and blast gates

Must be the PVC v. S&D that is the problem. My PSI heavy duty 4" hose fit very tightly over the S&D and I just used a $.50 clamp to keep it put. S&D in my local Lowes was white, very thin and light.
I used metal gates wired to control the DC so I am not sure about plastic gates but I imagine any solvent plastic glue would do the trick.

I also use the sewer & drain (S&D) pvc for my DC. I find with a little coaxing, I can get the clear 4" hose (that I buy from Woodcraft or Rockler) over the 4" PVC. I remove a few wraps of the reinforcing wire, first, and add a hose clamp. A 6" section of PVC attached to each end of a hose makes great quick-connects.

Like others are mentioning, I find the 4" S&D fits snugly over my 4" DC ports, 4" blast gates, etc.

            Regards,
            Tom
Edit: To make a slightly more permanent, but still reversible connection between PVC and blast gate, I drill a couple 1/8" holes through both, and put in a 3/8" long sheet metal screw. The joint is already air-tight enough, so it just needs to be held a little better.

Ok, we've all given you our opinions on S&D but at Woodcraft today I found the answer. They have a 4" PVC to 4" Hose adapter.

              Here is linky :

              I rock.

If you already have the PVC that you salvaged from somewhere then this is your answer.

I bought the 4" thin-walled piping and used it throughout my shop. It works great, and is a fraction of the price. Works for me..

Woodcraft has several types of PVC to host adapters. Best to cut a small piece of pipe and take it in with you.

I have a gripe on the woodcraft adapters. THEY PUT THE BARCODE AND DESCRIPTION LABELS RIGHT WHERE THE GLUE SHOULD GO!!!! I spent an hour cleaning up 4 adapters this week.

                    Thanks for all the help

When I builded my shop (16x20) I had no idea what I was doing, but knew I wanted a DC system and a ceiling drop for the Shark so I ran sch 40 from the center of the building to where I wanted the DC. How I am stuck with the ceiling run. I did find the fittings the convert the 40 to 20 and have that section working. The rest of the runs are gong under the floor and up I will be using the sch 20 for this.
Since there not a store within a 120 miles of here, I have to order everything from the net and I have a bunch of fittings that don't fit. I will order the adaptors for woodcraft.

Thanks guys, I don't know what I would do without all the good help on this board.

                    Ron

Why not offer up your unwanted fittings in your local Shopper newspaper. THere have to be other woodworker who are also 120 miles from anything and would love to save on the shipping charges. Yea, you're going to lose a little on the deal but not everything. BTW, welcome to the frustrating world of dust collection.
