    Bench Vise Question

For a right-hander, which side of the work bench should the vise be mounted on---left or right? Or does it really matter?

    Thanks,
    Dave

It's really a matter of comfort and convieniece but I have always tended to put them on the right hand side. I am right handed.

I don't mind hearing it, but keep it to yourself if it stinks.

I'm right-handed, and at some point it dawned on me that, with a face vise on the left side of the bench, I could hold the cutoff with my left hand while sawing with my right hand. Somehow that seemed non-intuitive, but it works well for me.

      Regards,
      Tom

I have an end vise and a side vise on my work table. I mounted the end vise on the right side, and the side at the left end of the table. I think it's mostly operator preference.

Depends on location of the bench and whether you mount on the end or front face of the bench. Obviously you want to mount it so that it provides the best room/work space for your right hand.
