I am looking for something that will put a texture on sheetrock, such as an 'orange peel' texture. Has anyone used one of these. Haven't had a chance to go to HF and take a look at it.
I’ll be watching this one because I’ve been looking at the same gun. I had orange peel put on downstairs buy the pros and would like to do the whole upstairs the same way. If anyone has used it how and what was your mixture??? How did it turn out? Pics
I am sure the texture gun by HF is about the same as the one Goldblatt makes. The contractor I use to work for had 2 of em. I don't know who made the other one but it was the same set up really.
You can use any drywall compound in them. I set my air pressure to about 15-20 psi. Mix the mud so it is about the consistency of a good pancake batter. I can't remember the sizes of the openings on the gun but I would start towrds the smaller sizes. Test the texture out on some scrap drywall to get the size beads you want to apply to the wall.
Some hints on texturing with a gun.
1. Cover EVERYTHING. The stuff flys everywhere.
2. The smaller the opening at the gun the finer the texture beads.
3. The thinner the mixture the finer the texture beads.
4. Keep the gun moving while the trigger is pulled so as not to build up the texture too much in one spot.
5. The mud will shrink a small amount as it dries so apply just a little heavier than what is on the wall that you want to match.
Any thing else just ask away and I'll answer if I can.
If it is impossible just give me a couple more days.
A guy accross the street from me just got done remodeling his parents house and used it, he bragged about how well it worked. I don't have any more info for you though.

Don't know about the HF model but I have the Homax model 4610. I found it on sale at either HD or Lowe's a while back and got the other one to price match -10%. Works like a champ.
