what is a drum sander used for? if it is for a good use. when i was looking some woodworking plans i found one on a drum sander it looks cool.

Sanding pieces, especially resawn stock, to a uniform thickness. Especially handy when cutting your own veneers.

Very handy for sanding door panels too.

Don't forget that a drum sander can flatten a surface. A planer doesn't do that without accessories. A drum sander can be used to flatten and even out glue-ups, for instance.

Before running a glue up thru a drum sander, scrape/sand all the excess glue from the face. Either that or have a new sanding strip ready to install!

looks like a great idea. If I were you, I would make it wider, as the extra width will be helpful to sand glue-eps as others have mantioned.
