Help with building floating shelves needed

Like a number of you, I like the look of floating shelves. I'd like them even more if I were able to build them. I'm not inclined to use the ready-made types and prefer to do-it-myself. Any available help and guidance will get my full attention and I look forward to the ideas you may have regarding this project. Many thanks.

Go to DIY.com and do a search on floating shelves. They look very easy.

I would say that the advantage of the store bought versions is that they are often metal. That means that the support structure can be very small and still be strong, thus the wrapping shelf box can be small.

Thanks all for your help with this one. I think using the French Cleat will allow me to accomplish this goal is short order.
