Project plans - my X- stepstool

I have built this stool project at least four times. It is my own design.

I built one last week for my granddaughter to stand on to reach the easel I made for her (she's only 3, I expect she'll grow into it)
I like my design for several reasons:
    • make it out of parts of 2x4 and a 1x4
    • simple elegant design appeals to me
    • low tool requirements. You can make it with table saw and drill
    • stable - the base is a little wider than the top and so its hard to tip over.
    • Stable - the 2x4s give it weight and low center of gravity.
    • Adjustable - you can make it taller and the base gets wider and safer as you make a taller version.
    • Key construction feature is a half lap which is fun and easy to make and very strong joint
    • Good beginners project if you need one.
    • Handy carry handle

I decided to document the plans so others can build it. So here are very detailed plans - Instructions and drawings - Both linked you can download the PDF files by clicking on them below:

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.
