    Shelf/Mantle Clock

My mom, whose eyesight isn't the best anymore, needs a new clock. Over the past year or so, I've harvested some wood from her trees after prunings. I came up with a design that is low profile, because it has to fit a certain shelf-space in her kitchen where she keeps her clock. The clock face is a book-match of avocado crotch and the sides and bottom are some slightly spalted Camphor, both from her yard. The top is some leftover walnut I had, including the moldings, which I'd make for a box project that never came to fruition. She'll receive this in two days. This is about as last minute as I care to get on a project.

    Thanks for looking.

Looks really nice and a great idea using the 'home grown" wood. I am sure she would love it.

Thanks Turaj. She did very much enjoy it, especially knowing the materials came from her beloved trees, the two largest in her yard, both being well over 50 years old.

That looks great. Knowing the tree was part of the Family surely helps with the sentimental value. I like the design and wood colors too. Nice book matching on the face.

Thanks Ken & Lee. I really liked working the camphor - made the whole shop smell...nice. Wish I had more, but there wasn't much yield, and the rest got turned into pens...
