    Let the games begin ...

This was a Wood Magazine September 2012 #213 project.

I built it for my daughter and SIL ... same folks I built the dining room table for and am VERY HAPPY to report I will now start on a crib for them and the new baby to come in May!! It's been a tough road for them to get pregnant but finally the IVF procedure worked!!

This is a game table ... surprisingly this 30 something couple and their friends regularly play board games. The new house has a game loft and this will work well for that space.

The pics don't show it well the "red" is actually Texas Aggie maroon ...

Took longer to build than I expected BUT ... it was the perfect excuse to add a Grizzly trac saw to the arsenal ...

Help me out here, why all the other panels? Do they lock together to make a larger top?
    Cork,

Dare to dream and dare to fail.

      Congrats on the coming grandchild!

Nice work. I, too, am wondering what the additional panels are for.

Ah the panels are so that they can have several game boards affixed ... each panel could have a board on each side ... it's unlikely they will use more than a couple ... and there is one with a formica side to make a "solid top".

How do the game boards get attached to the panel? I assume it would be some kind of temporary method.

The "suggested method" (in the article in magazine) was double sided tape.

Truthfully, I'm doubtful that is how they will use it ... it seems most game boards for current games are around 20"x20" and many now unfold to much larger.

My guess is a checker/chess board will be affixed permanently & perhaps a scrabble board and that's about it . As constructed to plan they have several to use as desired.
