I have two other projects to complete this year for others, this is the first.
My parents are refinishing their deck, and their gates needed replacing at the same time. Very simple project. Pressure treated 2x4s make up the frame, joined by half-laps. I really don't like PT wood, but it was the smart play here. It was so wet the glue wouldn't stick. I used screws rated for PT.
The balusters were precut, as it was cheaper than buying 2x2 stock. I cut them down and imitated the 45° on the cut end. Secured with a screw on each end, and plugs inserted.
When the wood dries out in 200 years it will get a coat of the same stuff.
Very little stress, easy to do. I needed that.
