    Toybox

Was asked to build a toybox for the new great grand child and started searching online. Saw one I liked and this is the end result. I used 3/4 oak cabinet grade plywood. All solid oak wood is glued onto the edges of the ply. Nothing too fancy other than a few pocket screws. Used a 3 ft. stainless piano hinge on rear with side mounted slow close hinges to protect her fingers. Applied 3 coats of clear satin brush on lacquer. Hopefully it will last many generations. Not sure if I can get all pics to upload.

Good job gramps!! Kids love boxes!!!

I am sure she will treasure it, kids use it for more than storage. Do you have to ship it or do they live close to you?

Nice job! One of my favorite projects is building toy boxes for the grand kids!

It will be in the family forever.

Nicely done. It will be a hand-me-down. I like the reveal to grab the lid...very creative. My only suggestion on kids stuff is to have rounded corners...nothing elaborate, just not sharp.

Nice job! Almost too pretty to be a toy box but she will probably have it into her teens and beyond. I'm sure it will see many other uses.

Thanks for the replies. They came here from Alabama for a wedding so they took it back with them this morning. Way to heavy to ship anyway.
                Thanks,

                  Thanks Conway, looks great!!

Grandchild #1 is coming in February, and i'm about to start on his toy box. I've kind of settled on the Storage Box plan from This Old House http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/how-...474090,00.html but constructing from 3/4" oak. My rough planks are 7 3/4" wide so i was going to rip them to 3 1/2" for the side panel glue-up, but was looking last night and think i may just leave them at 7" and do 3 wide instead of 5.

On the flip side--yours looks so good in oak ply that i may simplify my life!! I can fit a pair of half sheets in the car, no milling, no glue-up, cut 6 panels and invest my time in the finish instead of the construction.
