    Belaying Pin

A few months ago, one of our members posted a project that involved belaying pins. Since my doctor is an avid sailor, I decided a pin would make a great paperweight.

I had mentioned in an earlier post that I had been gifted with a stack of Compreg billets. I took a 2" x 2" block and turned this belaying pin. It is 12" long. The Compreg is so hard that no finish was necessary. I polished it with 4O steel wool. The brass dot is decorative and a way to hide the live center hole.

That's a beauty...nicely done. The brass is a nice touch.

Nice looking pin, and I would guess that compreg will hold up great to the elements. I like the (no) finish, my favorite!

Beautiful piece and very appropriate for a sailor.

No finish eh? Did you wax it though?
