    Wood Menorah

    Hi guys,
I know it's a little late, but here are some pictures of a wood menorah (Chanukah candelabra) I made for a friend. The design is my interpretation of something I saw on the web site of Gary Markow, an Israeli artist. I used Padauk and white maple wood. Figures were cut on the band saw and are doweled and glued into the base. Finish is a wipe on gel varnish over a sprayed on coat of shellac.

    Diamondman, that's an impressive

menorah you made! The white maple really stands out with the red of the Padauk. Great job sir, thanks for sharing the pictures with us.

That contrast really does it. Nice job, indeed.

Nicely done project! What variety is that 'white' maple? I'll know what to ask for the next time I'm looking for a strongly contrasting, light colored wood.
            Blessings,
            Chiz

That is really cool dude, nice work as well. What size holes did you use for the candle holder portion? Did you find any issues with the padauk taking glue?

Before gluing padauk, I wiped it down with alchohol on a rag. The color bleeds out like crazy staining the rag, your hands, everything orange. I not sure if you have to do this, as it might apply only to oily woods, but anyway the glue stuck. Candle holes are 3/8", but of course can be whatever you want.
