I guess that we've all built something from the scrap box.

Yea, I know that we have all built a project from the remains of other projects. Backround: My youngest daughter has a deep love for her grandmother who we lost 10 years ago. When we broke up my in-laws house there was the ever-present stool with a tapestry covering which no one, but my daughter, wanted. One day back in April we were at the daughter's home for a visit and she showed me the stool and asked if could re-glue it. It was all askew and the joints were coming apart, glue dried out and dowels split. Since I can no longer stand for more than 30 minutes it took me until last week to complete. C.man, this is the one that defied my finishing attempts, in both respects; taking a finish and getting it finished. I eventually used a Danish oil and successively finer papers ending in #320. No wonder most of us are guilty of overflowing scrap boxes.
    Enjoy!

Is this a completely new build, or the repair of the original? Either way it looks great and I'm sure your daughter will treasure it always.
I thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken.

It's a completely new build, Larry. The original was built in the '20's. I originally built this one out of the scrap box intending to make it a temporary piece. The more that I thought about it the more stupid I realized my thinking was.

Nice work Chiz, that's more than just a stool. It's really unique looking. I like the joinery. Looks like you got the finishing down pretty good.

The walnut accents were purely accidental. I was using biscuits and cut it into the wrong face. Remember, I'm working with scrap and had to take into account the best faces and the ends of those faces. I decided to use an accent color and since I made the original cut with the plate jointer I decided to use it for the rest of them. I cut small arcs using the biscuits as patterns but then I had to revert to the blade as a pattern. On the underside there are two cross braces attached with pocket holes to screw the cushion to. That's pretty much it. Thanks for the kind comments.

                Accident or not,

                That's one h**l of a nifty stool.

                Keep up, keeping up.

That's a real nice piece of work, Chiz. That walnut really sets it off.

Accidental or intentional, the Walnut accents are great and really compliment the color of the cusion. I assume the tapestry is from the orikginal stool.

                        Chiz,

Some of my most innovative work comes from or starts out from the scrap box.

Of course, I never throw ANYTHING away. the shop (garage) is sort of a version of Woodworker's Hoarders.
