    Bar Repair

This was my first paid project for furniture repair. My customer had this very ornate bar made in Honduras. The piece is all hand carved mahogany. The front of the bar consists of many panels glued together, then wraps around the side of the bar. The top and bottom were secured with wood screws. Due to the drastic humidity difference in Ohio from Honduras, the front panel lost around a 1/4 inch and with the wood screws in place on top, caused the front panel to split down the middle. I had to free up the broken panel by cutting off the screws, moving the entire piece over and re-gluing. I also let the front panel float as best as possible for future expansion/contraction.
