    A & C Lamp Table..

A basic straight forward build as my neice needed it now for a Mission Twin Bed I posted a couple of weeks ago I built for her. A 3 day build with 1 1/2 weeks for sanding.. finish and cure time. Made from the last of a large batch of QSWO I had on hand so a mixture of heart.. sapwood.. etc. I didn't bother to quad-linear the legs to get fleck on all sides as now meant now. A few pics in the shop before it departed to accompany the twin bed. Just stayin' busy in the summer heat...

Looks pretty decent for a rush job.

How is that joint working on the lower shelf stretcher? Looks something like a loose tenon/bridle joint thing. Interesting.

I was thinking the same thing.

Sarge - I've always liked QSWO. Needless to say, I don't know if I've seen anyone do a better job with it.

Thanks Erik.. JR.. Justin.. Uncle Crack.. JKing.. Cab.. and Larry R.

                  Eric and Cab...

Regarding the joinery on the bottom. I was in a hurry so I cheated on the bottom shelf. All the top stretchers are traditional M & T's but.. I picked up a few hours on the bottom stretcher and shelf with what I call cheater joints. The bottom end stretcher does have a standard mortise in the legs but the tenons are float. I dadoed the ends of stretcher 3/8" x 5/8" and then ripped a full float tenon the width of the stretcher 3/8" thick. Just glued it in to form the actual tenon itself.

The bottom stretcher has also was dadoed on the inside 3/8" x 3/8". In lieu of a traditional tenon on the ends of the shelf to insert into the dado I stood the shelf on end and cut another dado 3/8" x 3/4" deep. Another ripped to size (3/8" thick) float tenon was glued into the dado. I used glue on the middle 6" only so the tenon could expand. And I left the shelf width shy of the legs 1/4" on each side for expansion also.

A little curve on the front and rear bottom shelf to break the monotomy of rectinlinear and add just a hint of pi-zazz to an other-wise straight up design. That's about it as I was definitely in a hurry. I need to add onto an re-enforce my back deck. She said so.... haha...

                  Any further questions.. please ask!

                      Love it!

I always look forward to your next creation, Sarge. This one does not disappoint. The curves on the legs and shelf give the table nicely delicate looks for its solid joinery. Thanks for inspiring!

Fantastic work, Sarge. The joints on the stretcher caught my eye, too.

Thanks very much Bill.. Radhak.. Pappy and Bruce. Now that I may have let the cat out of the bag to some of the newer guys that read about those tenons.. I have to make a decision if I need to ask for special forgiveness in my daily prayers for teaching someone "how to cheat"! Oh well.. as busy as we all probably are trying to keep our necks above the sinking economy.. maybe that is not such a bad thing.

                            Regards to all...
