    Another spice rack...

Here's a simple spice rack I made for my wife. It's made almost entirely from the free reclaimed maple I got back in this super-gloat.

Some details on my blog post here: http://www.thefrankes.com/wp/?p=2063. It's not that fancy, but it gets the job done very well! I even got a thank you note from my wife.

This is how the brand from my $7.40 branding iron turns out.

That looks fantastic. Are the pieces of maple finished? If yes, how do you work around that (chemical remover, planer, etc.)?

P.S. Penzey's spices? I figured you for McCormick.

P.P.S. I'm done with that now.

        Nice!
Love the 'Mr Peanut' logo! Just kidding. Could you give us some quick details on the branding iron again? Looks good to me!

Looks good, Alex. Any worries about the extra weight on the hinges?

Yeah, Mr. Peanut. I'm glad you all pointed that out to me

Here's more info on the branding iron. The second link shows the steps I used to model and print it.

I figured I'd just wait and see how it goes. I'll post an update if it starts to sag...

ROFL! Good thing I wasn't drinking coffee.

I used a chemical stripper to remove the old finish, then milled it down with the planer and jointer.

What kind of joinery did you use on that face frame? That is a separate face frame, isn't it? Or is it molded into the sides/top/bottom?

I've got a bunch of maple flooring that I got from a a condo project a couple years ago. I didn't bother with using a chemical stripper, I just plained the finish off in my thickness planer. It was a prefinished floor though. I ended up spending a couple weekends ripping off all the tongues and grooves (which make good stickers and stirring sticks) and doing some rough planing. The oxide finish wasn't that great on my planer knives so I just dedicated that set for rough work.

That is nice Alex, and timely too. I have to build a cabinet to hold all the building supplies for my helos. I was planning on making the doors very similar to what you have done. Now I have a guide!

Great job Alex. I saved a magazine aticle with suggestions on using left over flooring for various projects. Your rack is another idea I'll add to the collection.

                              PS: Love the logo.
