    More boxes

Made these this weekend and completed the finishing (BLO and paste wax) today. I tend to make a lot of small projects because most of my wood comes from the scrap pile behind a cabinet shop that lets me scrounge. Most of the wood is face frame size of varying lengths.

First box is white and red oak, the second is walnut and Zebra(I think).

Great looking, and very creative handles. Free wood...that's the best.

Good joinery on both Larry and I really like the walnut-zebra contrast and the contoured ends of that piece especially. Boxes as this are a great use of scrap and really a test of your joinery skills when working with smaller scales than carcass work.

      Great job...

Very nice. Do I see dovetails or box joints on the zebrawood box?

I make a lot of small boxes, too. I find it really helps me hone my skills without spending a fortune on wood. If you can make a small box look good with nice joints, then large projects are actually much easier.

Nicely done. Box joints have me stumped, so I'm envious of yours.

How did you attach the legs/ends on the zebra box?

Those are really nice! The contrast in the walnut and zebra is real eye candy. Both are excellent.

Thanks to all for the encouraging comments, when I show them to SHMBO all she says is, "That's nice, where are we going to put another one?"

They are both box joints, the oak box has 1/4" and the Zebra has 3/8".

I have made several box jigs and even a Lynn Sabin's screw-type when I had the BT3100, but now I have the Incra router jig and find it to be very accurate.

I was initially going to use 1/4" or 1/8" dowels but after I butt jointed the ends I liked the simpler look and figured it was long grain to long grain anyway and would probably break the box before it came loose.

Both are awesome, but that second one is in a class by itself.

Nice job. I love small boxes. I used to make some of them. Must be nice to get free wood.
