    finally finished the rocking chair

First, thanks to everyone who lent advice when I got stuck in a couple spots.

I've never tried something with this many mortises, tenons, curves, etc that all had to line up the first time. This is a modified version of the one in Wood mag a year ago or so. Took me a few months to get this done between life, and winter cold. There's a few mistakes in it you can't see like where I started cutting a mortise from the wrong side of one of the front legs and had to make a square plug, the grain almost matches...almost.

The story behind this is my sons best friend graduated college (pre-med) and asked if I would make him something instead of buying him a present. Seeing as he is like another son to us I said sure. Then he dropped the bomb...he wanted a rocking chair. The chair was delivered to him last night, and he is very pleased with it.

Very nice work, came out great. What a nice gift. It will likely be an heirloom piece. I hope you signed it somewhere, and added the date.

My wife got me a branding iron for Christmas so this was it's first official use, inside the back seat rail. Then I added the date with a wood-burning pencil.

Great job on the rocking chair! Now that is what you call a priceless gift. Your adopted son must have been blown away when the chair was delivered.

I looked up the article in Wood. I must say your rendition is much more attractive that the one in the mag. It looks a lot sturdier as well. I received a hint while at dinner with friends from LOML, so I may have to give it a go.
                          regards,
