Where did you get those plans? I was kind of amazed to see this since the bottom portion of that is extremely similar to one my father built in the late 30's in high school and which I was wanting to do my version now.
His looks great with 65 years of patina and is one of my treasured pieces of furniture. We were literally just discussing me doing a version of it two days ago. He used screws for the shelves...
I was thinking of trying to go more "mission" style in having the tenons going through on the front at the two main support points, but that looks like it might mean heavier stock so I am back to thinking of almost exactly what you have done except with flat shelves, smaller overall dimensions and four shelves.
