    Sliding Door Shop Cabinet

Saw them building this cabinet on Woodsmith a couple of weeks ago and decided it was just what I needed. Found the free plan download at http://www.woodsmithshop.com/downloa...hopcabinet.pdf

I did make a couple of changes, instead of bins I made drawers and I replaced the aluminum bar the doors slide on with an oak bar. (works great) This replaced some old pegboard and increased the storage space by 50%.

    This is the cabinet:

      Wow - great work!

I have always looked at the plans and wondered if it'd be too big for me to chew; how long did it take you to build this? Did you use the same dimensions as in the plans?

Nice work. All the planning and attention to detail shows. I like how you arranged everything. Good idea on the sliding doors.

Nice! The drawers were a good thought.

Sometime I wish I went with a sliding design. I did pegboard doors over the stud space. http://www.bt3central.com/showthread.php?t=39255 being able to use all the sides of he pegboard is nice, but the doors can sometimes be problematic if I have too much stuff on the bench in the path of the door swing. I also wish the interior space of mine was a little bigger too. My newly procured #8 plane won't fit with the rest of my planes.

Excellent job John. You probably have already come to appreciate getting organized can save a ton of time in the long haul with this build. Nothing worse IMO than having mumbo jumbo everywhere and some mumbo jumbo is hiding behind or under other mumbo jumbo.

Well done and a great addition that is worth while...

Thanks everyone, Yes I followed the dimensions in the plans. The only ones I changed was removing some of the bin dividers and building longer drawers. The project took about five days, 2 days on the building and 3 coats of poly over 3 days. I was very pleased with the plans, they are very detailed and every dimension was dead on.

Of course it made me look at some of the other shop storage and I am now in the process of tearing out some ugly shelving I built 25 years ago and am building some new cabinets to replace them. These will be plywood using pocket hole construction.

Very nice work. That actually gives me an idea. I can put pegboard on some of my cabinet doors and hang some of the smaller tools on them. Thanks for the idea.
