Awesome. I love the drawer pulls. I assume they are set in a kerf in the drawer fronts?

I couldn't stop looking at the lines you used in the front. Top drawer pull matching the shape of the top and reversed for the base and bottom drawer pull were almost hard to spot. The free flowing lines of the center pull provide a seperation that trick the eye.

As interesting as it is beautiful!

Thanks. I was a little intimidated looking at the plans at first because of all the curves. But it really wasn't all that bad. It's from the Dec/Jan issue of Wood magazine. Yep, cut the kerfs 1/2" deep on the drawer fronts, then cut the curves on the bandsaw. Originally used a satin finish, but the figured birdseye maple I found just wasn't popping, so I put a couple coats of gloss on. That really made it pop.

Nicely done! I'm going to have to re-think my "no gloss" policy. That looks dy-no-mite!

That turned out very well. I really liked that wood article.

I was thinking about trying that design too. My mom was wanting a jewelry box for Christmas, but she also wanted necklace storage. Before I head about the necklasesI got cold here and I ended up buying a large chest type. Maybe next year (or the one after that ). I think I'd probably make the pulls a little more uniform though.

                      Andy,

I looked up my copy of the Wood magazine. Your crappy cellphone camera picture looks better than their professional picture in the mag. I like your box better! Great job.

Sir, I bow down to you

                          Andy,

As a fellow box maker, your box (to me) makes me look like a rank amateur.

Using plans or not, this piece is one of the best thing I've seen in a long time. You should be really proud of yourself.

                          This is word class work.

FYI: If you haven't already, check out the book "400 Wood Boxes, The Fine Art of Containment & Concealment". Published by Lark Books. Available at Amazon.

Its not a "How to", just photos and bries descriptions of some of the most beautiful and innovative boxes I've ever seen.

Its a wonderful place to get inspired. I know I have.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone. It turned out much better than I thought it would. Couple of little screwups in there but you can't really see them unless you're really looking for them. Easy for me though, since I know exactly where I screwed up.

Cut an 1/8" dado 1/2" deep on the drawer front blanks, planed down the handle blanks to fit the dados, glued some patterns on the drawer fronts and handles and cut the curves on the bandsaw and cleaned them up with a drum sander on my drill press.

And as an added bonus... I got so frustrated in routing the sides on my Bosch tabletop router table, (took me three tries to get the sides right) I went out a bought a new one from Rockler. And a new router while I was at it. The difference is night and day, never liked using the router table before, now it's a pleasure.

I LOVE projects that give you an excuse to buy new power tools! Hmm... What project is next as I see HD has that Ridgid granite top saw marked down.

Nice build Andy.. looks simple but those drawer fronts are in reality not simple at all. You did an excellent job with them. If possible you might post a picture of the drawers open. And.. that picture from the cell phone (and yes most CP pictures are crappy) is really quite good indeed.

                              Well done...
