    1st Box attempt

Our 5th anniverary(wood) comes up 1st of Sept and I have finally started rehab so I decided to attempt to make my wife a small box as a gift. Got some Cherry rounds from an old customer and cut it down to strips to make the box. Just linseed oil so far and wax to come next. Found an interesting knot shaped like a half heart and matched it up by splitting rthat piece qand put it in the bottom

Very nice!! Switch to the "modern" gift list (as opposed to the traditional) for next year and you'll be able to do it again.

My 10th is coming up, so I'm switching from "modern" back to "traditional." You'll see why when you look at the list.

Very nice and I'm sure she will appreciate something more that you made for her. I have a 20th coming up in October (I always get married in Oct. ) and trust me... once they find out you can make something you have opened a can of worms and you will continue to crawl.

Happy 5th and may there be many more so... more tools are in order.

            Regards...

This is a dangerous road. On the wood anniversary you gave your wife a gift made of wood. After that come silver, gold anniversaries. I see you are already looking for a metal lathe. What will you be doing for your diamond celebration?

Actually I,ll be looking for a wood lathe made out of iron preferably old iron. And as far as the diamond anniv. I cross that facet when I come to it, perhaps diamond tipped saw blades.

Very nice work. The "before and after" shots were great.

For those of you who have seen my dilema (ankle) it was fun cutting the cherry round while standing on 1 leg. I should also mention I have had to sell off almost all of my power tools to make ends meet, but it was fun cutting the miter joints on an old Jorgenson miter box by hand and rasping the corners as well, gluing it up using rubber bands and bricks to keep it all square. Then hand planing and sanding it to get it down to a finishable coat for linseed oil and wax. Make you appreciate what craftsmen our forefathers who built furniture went through.I have to wait till the 5th to surprise the LOML but it was worth the work and the education to build.
