    Red Elm Towel Chest

Here's my first project of the season. It's a towel chest for our bathroom made mainly of red elm. The doors and drawer sides are ash. The drawer has handcut dovetails, the sides are frame and panel...nothing too fancy. The stain is a combination of golden oak, cherry, and early American. Some of the pics look a bit more red than it really is...the pics of the top and dovetails are more realistic of the actual color.

VERY nice work. I love the grain pattern and the design. Having the drawer dovetails show in front is an interesting choice, which adds a nice detail.

    Great Job!

      Nice work Scott!!
The fit and finish are great.
I like a little reddish tint to most of my work, I am not a fan of dark brown finishes. Your stain blend really enhances the look of the piece.
I think therefore I .....awwww where is that remote.

That is really a nice looking piece. Is it your design? The devil is in the details ... fluting, pad feet, arched frame on the top panel of the sides, curved rails on the doors. And the drawer is way cool. Good job on the dovetails.

          Congrats

Thanks for the comments everyone. It is my design Lonnie, and I got to suffer from all the oversights of building a prototype!

beautiful is the best way to say it. To narrow it down to one or two features would be impossible, just way too many nice features to pick from.

Beautiful, Scott! I've never seen red elm before. How is it to work with? Looks like it would be similar to oak just looking at the grain patterns.

Joe - I started with Minwax spray on golden oak, then hit the lighter boards with Minwax spray on early American, then gave the whole thing a coat of spray on cherry. The ash got cherry first, then early American...no golden oak. All followed with spray on poly. Spray on "has been veddy veddy good to me"!

                        Thanks again everyone.

Nothing fancy, he says - and he's even got flutes on the side stiles!

That must be one of the fancier pieces I've seen here. Good enough for submission to Fine Woodworking's Gallery. Please do - and give us some bragging rights !
