    Let's go Shopping Dad!

A couple of weeks ago, LOML wanted to get our 18 month old a toy shopping cart. Our daughter's going through a stage where she loves to play with some toy food we bought her. I suggested that I could build her a nicer one than she could get at the store.

So here it is. The body is made from scrap pine 2x4's that I cut down to size. The spindles are also scrap from oak, and the handle is, you guessed it, scrap dowel made of poplar. I think I'm going to leave it natural looking and simply put a few coats of poly on it. For this project I spent a toal of $10. This was for the casters. Let me know what you think.

I think that's a pretty nice shopping cart that will last a long time. Much nicer than anything I've ever seen in a store.

Very nice. And, the things you build for kids can bring you much satisfaction, as well as become family heirlooms. My neighbor has a simple toy train his father carved for him nearly 70 years ago. It occupies a place of honor on his fireplace mantle, and he tells me he would not part with it for all the beer in Bavaria.

I think it's pretty cool. All she needs now is a scale toy car to let the cart roll into.

Clever idea... nice build. As a matter of fact... if you can gaurantee that none of the wheels will not go... thump.. thump.. thump from one end of the store to the other you may want to patent it. I always get that cart at the store... always! So... make that gaurantee and I will make you an offer.

I have a lady friend who is a Doctor and I run into her quite often at the store. We don't have to see each other physically as one of us can be in one aisle and the other 4 aisle's away. But.. if we hear thump.. thump.. thump a voice is heard through the store... Hello Susan... a reply comes back.... Hey JT... ha.. ha...

Very fun - nice work. I'd build one for my youngest, but I'd have to pad the corners, as it would get run into every wall, etc., throughout the house.

My wife and I thought of the same thing after our daughter took the wheel. She can thread the needle really well, but I might soften the corner still.

That is really cool! Two of my grandaughters have little shopping carts (grandma bought them) that they simply love to play with! Shopping must be imbedded in the female DNA.
