    Mom's Entertainment Center

Almost forgot to take pics of this; had it loaded in the truck (new truck! ) and took this with my phone. I think it's the second time I've ever used the phone camera. Yes, there are six legs. I don't know why.

Red oak veneer ply with red oak trim & legs. Finish is Minwax Tung Oil Finish, blonde shellac, and wipe-on poly.

Things I learned from this project:

It's a really good idea to actually draw some sort of rudimentary plan before starting; make-it-up-as-you-go isn't as efficient as it sounds.

Add the edge trim after attaching the legs. I did the trim first, then cut the trim at the leg locations. BAD idea! I ended up with gaps at most of the leg/trim intersections, and the whole thing is slightly out of square top-to-bottom.

Drawers weren't as scary as I thought. Thanks to your advice, the fronts and handles went on with minimum fuss. Drawer boxes are 1/2" BB, BTW.

I need to branch out from Tung oil/shellac/poly.

I really like the design and I've always been a fan of red oak. Nice job!

Wow G, that is pretty bold to have built that without a plan. That is really good for something so complicated! i think that would of taken me a good six notebook pages to detail!

Nice job and looks good, GS. Looks like you learned a few things on this project from your comments. I got a chuckle on the putting the trim on before attaching legs and then cutting out. I know someone who did that well over 30 years ago on one of his first projects. I just can't recall who is was though as hard as I try.

        Well done...

Nice work G. I like that design - looks like there's room below the component shelf behind the areas right and left of the drawers? Is that more storage?

That is a really good looking piece. That shape is modern and classic at the same time.

Yes, those are spaces for whatever knick-knacks Mom wants to put there.
