Look what I did this weekend

Ok, this is my first completed project post on this site. Our outdated vanity off our master bathroom needed help. My wife needs more space and didn't use the makeup vanity to sit and apply makeup. So, I decided to build in a cabinet and make it look like new cabinets. The box is simple scrap plywood. The cabinet face is left over oak plywood. The boxes are made from pine and the drawer fronts are poplar. We decided to go with a chocolate brown semi-gloss paint to avoid matching stains. I think it turned out nicely.

That looks great. I never would have thought to use the brown paint, but I would have been wrong, as it looks superb.

        That looks great!

Has me thinking... I had been wondering if I could spruce up the kitchen cabinets with some new doors and drawer fronts, and you have me inspired.

        You did an excellent job.

Looks great! I agree about the paint, with all the differant wood it was a smart move. Good job!

Looks good, Shep. Keep an eye on the paint job.

I have cabinets painted a medium blue in the main bath. The combination of water, soaps and cleaning agents has stained/streaked the paint. Could have just been the paint I used, too. Don't even remember the brand or type.

I'm not worried about the paint. I've used this brand before and it holds up well. If it were in the kids bathroom I might worry more. Seeing that I'll be the one using it, it should last a long time.

                          Looks good! Nicely done.

On a side note. It's interesting that the former makeup station had a vent directly under the place a chair would have been. I wonder if this had anything to do with your wife's aversion to that spot?

I don't know why the builder put the vent there, but I think it would be ok in the winter when the heat's on. You're probably right about the A/C though.

Nice way to take an existing cabinet and modify it to better suit your needs.
