    Jewery box

I hope this is the appropriate forum for this, it's only the first part finished.

As I noted in the tool talk thread, I got the box/finger joint fixture working and made the tray for the Jewelry box project I'm working on.
The tray is made from Cherry with a Baltic Birch bottom.
Although the whole project isn't finished, this is the first thing I've finished for the project. It came out fairly well.
This is after I fitted the bottom but hadn't trimmed the joints.

Here it is after 4 coats of tung oil finish applied. What looks like a blemish in the lower corner is only a reflection. The photo doesn't really do it justice, the grain is beautiful!

The Jewelry box itself is made of Goncalo Alves with a Rose carved from Purpleheart inlaid into the top. I'll put up a pic when I get it further along but this came out nicely and I wanted to pat myself on the back.

    Roy.

You should back yourself on the back, indeed! Nice work. I can't wait to see the box!

      That looks great.

For some reason, box joints and I don't get along too well so I am just a little jealous.

Nice work and I see what you are using the 1/8" box joints for now. Be sure to post when finished but I am sure you will. BTW.. the tooth design you mentioned sounds to be alternate top bevel (ATB) meaning a tooth angled right and a tooth angled left but.. a TCG (triple chip grind) between the right and left.

The triple chip has angled corners but is more of less flat in the center. That tooth is placed between the right and left angled teeth to clean the corner we mentioned that is standard with an ATB alone. It is what you find on most glue line rip blades I believe. Knotscott could confirm and describe it better as he lives and breathes saw-blades.

Anyhoo.. that one should solve your problem. I use a 24 T flat to cut tenons on the TS to avoid the corner angle you mentioned. I pretty much use my Box Joint set to do my box joints as most are 1/4" and 3/8" but I may do some boxes as you are doing in the future and use a 1/8" on some of that delicate work.

Great job on the jewelry box...

Like JR said, I can't wait to see the finished box.

If that's an indication of the quality of the finished box, git 'er done. Looks real nice.

Looking forward to seeing the complete project, especially the inlaid rose. Just can't show it to SWMBO.
