    Egg Timers

Lee Valley sells sets of these little egg timers. There is four to a set. They are different colors and each one has a different time. They are close to 3, 4, 5, and 6 minutes.

I bought six, broke one. here are the results. They are 4" high.

From left to right, the first two are forms of Rosewood, three is Zebrawood, four is Mahogany and fifth is Lignum Vitae. The center column is 1/4" brass rod. The finish is wax only. The colors of the sand washed out in the flash. This picture, while blurry, gives you a better idea of the colors.

So are they set for standard or daylight savings time? They look great. I like the rosewood on the outside.

Very nice.. I just found out what "egg timers" are as my lovely doesn't allow me in the kitchen. Probably pay-back for "stay out of the shop".

Where did you get the lignum vitae? And out of curiousity.. how difficult was it to turn on the lathe. That is some major hard wood as it was and still is used for ship propellor shaft bearings. It will dull a blade sooner than black locust from my experience. May not be as bad taking thin shavings off it but I am curious.

              Sarge,

Some years ago, a friend gave me a wood box that contained over 20 lbs of hardwood scraps. Many of them were the standard wood sample size, 2 1/2" X 5". I used a fly cutter to cut the circles. The sample size was perfect to get the two rounds I needed.

The LV was very hard, but, so was the rosewood.
