    Mahogany Bar-shop pics

I posted this bar a while back. I just dug up some photos that survived hurricane Andrew, so I thought they may be of some interest. The overall height stands about 10ft high, including the header which is about 20ft long x 12" high. The main overhead header is about 5ft in diameter, and the double bullnose mouldings are 1" each for a 2" pair. There is a corresponding header on the opposing wall with a 30" clear hole through both headers for a potted tree to extend through. The decorative filler on the bar and header is hammered copper and brass (by others). The trick to this bar was the curved bullnoses and half rounds made on a curve. The edging on the bartop is a double 1½" bullnose. The finish is a NGR red mahogany methanol based aniline dye with clear lacquer finish. Three lengths of 12/4 Mahogany 20" wide and 18' long were ordered for this project.

This picture shows the "dry fit" assembly. The front is constructed with "bending ply fastened to forms. The curved moulding on the bar front is also curved horizontally. It will be removed so that the bar front can be laminated with Mahogany veneer. The cabinets are Mahogany plywood with solid wood fronts and crown. All the trim pieces are solid wood.
    .

    .
The next picture is the crown. It is a stacked assembly of solid Mahogany.
    .

    .
This is the crown after being dyed, ready for further finish.

This is a section of the bar front after being veneered and dyed.

    .
This is a view of the bar front with the copper and brass applied.
    .

    .
These are some of the soffit sections after they were dyed. The large center sections are 12" high and are a 5' diameter.
    .

    .
These are the smaller sections of the bar cabinets and soffit, after being dyed awaiting further finish.
    .

    .
This is one of the smaller soffit pieces, its construction is bending ply over curved forms, made up with a stud type of vertical structure, and then the faces veneered.

I've been thinking, yeah I know it wasn't my turn to think, you should teach some woodworking classes. It's time to pass along some of your hard learned skills and get paid for not working. I expect that you could do seminars and there are enough BT3'ers to fill them and drink all your beer, err that is pay you something.

that's my thought for the day, I only get one so use it well

Wow! Nice C-man! When was that done? I see the Hurricane Andrew reference, but in one photo, beyond the gate I thought I spied a late 70's van. Do you know if that bar is still there today? Again, beautiful work.

So, you remembered the posting...see you aren't that old. This time, I included the "during" pictures that I dug up. I thought they might be of interest.

That is fine craftsmanship. You should be very proud to call that your work. There are very few real craftsman left now and they are getting scarcer everyday.I hope your clients and contractors appreciate the effort that goes into your work. There is much more to that type of work than a few dollars you put yourself into that piece.
I think therefore I .....awwww where is that remote.

Thanks for the compliment. This was '88-'89. You're right about the van. It was one of my shop vehicles. I haven't stayed in touch with the client, and never got a call back for repairs, or new work, so maybe, maybe not. In any case it's out of warranty now.

No call back is a plus, but I always wonder about really nice work like that. Wonder if its still there or if the new owner had other tastes.

Amazing work, C-Man. Swank & classy, wish I had room for something like that in my little bungalow. Did you say previously how long that project took?
