... and the new Grand Baby will be delivered shortly as well ...
Well ... after what seems like an eternity ... the "crib" part of this project is finished and will be delivered to it's new home next week ... I still have the rail for the "toddler bed" and the footboard for the "full bed" to make but those aren't under the time crunch the crib portion was. So .... deep breath ... hold ... exhale slowly ... again ... ahhhhhhhhhhh ....
The pictures in the following link show the finished crib in both it's "undressed" and "dressed" states ... the "dressed" state shown is using "store bought" accoutrement's vs the beautiful handmade quilts and blankets from grandmothers, great-grandmothers and friends with which it will be ultimately adorned.
For the interested woodworkers viewing, I used this crib plan from Rockler and then modified it substantially to suit my particular taste. The wood is rift sawn white oak I bought from the M & G Sawmill (well worth the trip and great guys to deal with), the finish is MinWax antique Oak gel and a topcoat (several) of hand wiped satin oil based poly.
So the photo's are at the following link (a Picasa web album) you should be able to view ... Link to crib web album
I got to buy SEVERAL new tools for this build including a new Grizzly SL1023 table saw since I burned up the motor on my BT3100 on the first rip of the 4/4 white oak. I also managed to finagle a Dowelmax jig (awesome craftsmanship on this tool!) so all in all winners all round!
I'm really very happy with the results of the crib ... the plan was pretty easy to read and understand, it gave me LOTS of mortise/tenon experience which I really need for future projects I have in mind and the mother-to-be is thrilled so I can't ask for much more satisfaction than that ... it's a good day ...
