    Queen size master bed

I had a couple of walnut slabs for a long time that I did not know what to do with, so I decided to incorporate them into the headboard and footboard of a bed. As you may have seen before, I also had some beautiful spalted maple that I thought would make a good contrast and lighten the overall effect. The headboard and footboard are glued into the legs using traditional mortise and tenon, except the tenons were so long I routed out the mortises to save time and get smooth sides. The legs also have a 1/2-inch strip of walnut laminated between maple for a little decorative touch. The side rails are attached with shallow tenons and bed bolts. The legs are straight vertical except for a flair to the outside for the last foot or so, even though in the pictures they look like the whole leg splays outward. No stains were used and it was finished with spray pre-catalyzed laquer. So far it is very stable.

Excellent machine... you handled those curves very well which lead to an interestig effect on the over-all piece assembled. Were the top 8" of curve cut from one blank or did you add the curve piece? I suspect one blank.

Yes, I made up the legs to 5-inch thickness in one dimension so I could cut the curve. Finished legs are 3 X 3 until the curve starts, where the flair out and taper down to about 2 inches.

Very nice! I really like the lamination idea and the curves are beatuiful.

Nice work, I love the appearance it gives of just using pieces on hand and "throwing it together," although anyone here clearly knows better.

              OUTSTANDING! BEAUTIFUL!

Very creative use of some unique wood. You should be proud of that work.

                        Very cool

Great wood combination is a very appropriate design. All of it well done!
