    Bathroom Cabinet

Started this one a looooong time ago, and now that I'm back in the shop I had a chance to finish it up.

The cherry face frame was my first experiment with pocket hole joinery -- have to say, it's pretty quick and easy. The doors are mortise & tenon, with 1/4" thick bird's eye maple panels, the carcass is baltic birch ply, and the finish is 3 - 4 coats of wipe-on poly. It measures about 18" wide, and 24" high.

I haven't decided on knobs yet. I'm going to turn some cherry knobs and see how they look -- otherwise I'll buy some metal ones.

      You still "got" it!

Nice work. Inset doors, and all!

        Very Cool

The other option would be a Maple handle. Maple and cherry are always a good contrast!

looks real nice! the contrast does look good.

i didnt think that baltic birch ply and maple would match once a finish was applied, but it looks good in the pics. do you notice any difference in real life standing there looking at both surfaces?

Wow birds eye maple in the bathroom, is that to go with the solid gold faucets and diamond chandeliers... As long as I have a newspaper or copy of FWW in mine I am happy

                Great work BTW look Boooootiful.

                  Oooooh, shiney!

                  Excellent!

It's difficult to tell from the angle, but did the right stile of the right door and the right stile of the face frame come from the same piece of stock? If so, did you plan that? Same question for the left stile of the left door and left stile of the face frame. Once again, for the right stile of the left door and the left stile of the right door. . .

I think it's a nice touch when people plan their projects so that grain patterns flow between and among pieces. It gives a more elegant look than simply having four random pieces (say, for a door frame) assembled.

I've had the Kreg pocket hole setup for about 1 1/2 years now and love it.
Nice job on the cabinet, it looks very, very nice.

                            OK, now it's finished!

I finally installed it in it's place of honor -- above the cr@pper. Over the weekend I turned some knobs to see how they'd look (while kid #3 was busily sanding his pinewood derby car at the downdraft table) -- I think they'll do.

Thanks for all the encouraging words!

@footprints -- I wasn't too worried about BB and maple not matching too closely since the cherry face frame separates the two, but the grain of this piece of BB really does match pretty close like you said.

@poolhound -- gold faucet/diamond chandelier, heh heh! I had to crop this picture pretty close to get rid of all the kids' splash marks on the mirror!

@Brian -- well, I could say that I intentionally matched the grain between rail and face frame, however, I'm always telling my kids not to lie...let me get back to you.

@Kristofer -- there were so many other things I haven't been doing around the house, that the wife hadn't even mentioned it!

I was just recalling the other day, that it was these exact BE maple panels that I used as an excuse to buy my little drum sander. That was a long time ago....

                            Regards,
                            Tom
