    Computer Desk

I decided to get back into the shop over the Christmas break, and make a functional piece that we've needed for a while. Our old computer desk just didn't have the real estate on top that the kids need for doing homework. And, since kids will be using it a lot, I wanted the top to be bullet-proof.

So, the top is a 2-layer lamination of MDF, with 1" wide maple edge. The sides and back are baltic birch with 1.5" wide maple edges front and back, and a 2.5" maple apron in front. The finish is wipe-on poly.

I still need to bundle and hide the cable mess underneath -- much more noticeable with this desk than the last one!

    Regards,
    Tom

Look good Tom. That's something I need to do since I'm still using one I made for my kids 25 years ago.

That is a good looking desk. Clean and simple lines and very functional. I think we have the same pc btw.
As for cable management I used split wire loom from home depot, its cheap and very effective. I also found getting everything mounted up in the back off the floor is very handy too.

Beautiful clean lines! I like to go for darker colors/stains just to hide any imperfections , so this one looks doubly good!

When did you actually start and when were you done? I ask because I realized just today that the study-desk I'm making for my daughter started in July, and there's still 20% to go (ie, I'm pre-finishing it before assembly) !

            Nice work Tom,
I like the contrast in colors and the simple design.
Maybe you could box in the area around the computer to help hide the wiring if you have some scrap left over.
I think therefore I .....awwww where is that remote.

That looks real nice. Very crisp/clean design with a very modern look.

Thanks for the kind comments AND suggestions, guys.

My goal was to finish it over the holidays, and since I didn't start 'til after Christmas...well, that's how I decided on a simple design! I figured I can always add some drawers down one side, etc. (radhak: I have plenty other projects that I've started longer ago, and still haven't finished!)

I like the ideas of mounting the power strip and adding a cable tray -- I'll probably do a combination of each. Thanks for the tips.

                    Regards,
                    Tom
