    Picture Frame

This is a picture frame that I made for a Xmas gift this year. This is from a plan from Wood magazine. I made it out of red oak and finished with Watco Danish oil.

Beautiful! Love the detail strips. What size photos fit in the spaces?

Very nice job! I built one of these a while back and it didn't turn out as well as yours. It's got a bit of a lean to it, which I call a "feature".

            Thanks for the compliments.

The frame size for the pictures is 4 3/4" x 6 3/4". If you use a 5 x 7 photo you have to trim it. I put white card stock in the picture frame so you can center a smaller photo in the frame.

To get the frame level I used the piece of marble that I use for sharpening and placed sandpaper on it and sanded the bottom of the finished frame until it was level.

This is one of 2 that I made this year. The other one was made from the same oak board but was finished with a ebony stain. It got sent out before I could take any pictures.

That does look really good. I have been impressed with everyone's skill here. I hope I have half as good as luck.

That is a slick frame, Kevin.

Awesome, Kevin. Very nice. If you have the plans, mind sharing?

The plan for this picture frame was in the Nov 2006 Wood magazine. Here is a link to the plan. It is not a free plan - it costs $3.

Everyone that I show it to always asks if I can make one for them.
