    Electric Fireplace Surround

One item off the 'list'. Knotty Alder with LOML's design and finish selection. Designed in Sketchup first to get the scale as she wanted it.

Finished with Cabot Pre-Stain (let sit for one hour), then Cabot "Tannery" stain from Lowe's (5 minutes then wipedown), 2 layers of Lacquer for topcoat. Of course the flash really messes up the look of the finish -- sorry.

Looks like it turned out really nice. Always good to get another one off the list.

That really dresses up the wall. The mirror above the mantle is a nice touch too.

You *had* to have scored points with LOYL with that great project! I like the proportions as well.

Very nice Stan, has a nice chocolate coloring to it, actually more walnut than chocolate.

The stain is a Custom Tint Cabot in Tannery, below is a sample from the Cabot website.

It was used to reduce the orange tints in the Knotty Alder due to the orange painted walls it is placed against. It took a number of samples to get the coloring right (it is a pretty dark stain). The final go was flooding the Alder with Cabot Pre-Stain wood conditioner for 5 minutes then let it dry for 1 hour, followed by stain which was let stand for 5 minutes then a good rubdown.

I can say Stan, the effort shows. The wood was transformed!
