    Another rocking horse :)

Thanks to some help I got over on this thread, I've gotten my daughter's rocking horse assembled now, and ready to finish!!

This is the third one I've made, and I still just love the design. It's a book called The Family Handyman: Toys, Games, and Furniture -- I'll post the product link and cover shot below.

The first horse was for my niece, and the second was for my son (and it was my first post here after lurking for years), and this one is for my daughter, who turns two in just over a week.

I've included a picture of Jacob's horse (about 2.5 years old now) so you can see what it looks like when the cherry darkens. The horse is cherry, the rocker is maple, and the eyes are walnut.

    The new one:

    High Alex,
Beautiful horses you have in your stable there.
About 13 years ago I built a rocking horse for my now 16 yo daughter. That thing was rode hard and put away wet for about 3 years before it was retired. We still have it and I need to do some minor repairs to it but it was a hoot to build and see her enjoy it.
I used oak for the horse and cherry for the rockers. It has rope as a mane and tail. I inlayed walnut for a bridle around the head. Oh and leather ears. I can't remember the eyes but I do know there is something for the eyes.
I have to dig out of storage sometime and refurbish it.

    Thanks for the memories.

Nice one, love how the wood aged. We should put together a pony show with all the horses running around here lately! Take a look at mine in finished projects if you like.
        Great job!

            Very Cool

If you keep creating horses you will need a bigger barn. Which might detract from shop space.

Very nice Alex.. and a great help IMO to those that might not know how cherry darkens.

              Well done...

Like me. I was about to ask if you refinished the older and put some stain on it for some reason. I had no idea cherry changed that much, especially that quickly. Thanks.

Oh yea, both are really nice work. Hopefully I'll be able to turn out work that nice someday.

Happy birthday, sweetie-pie! She got her horse this morning and understood right away that it was hers and not her brother's: "Jake-bop horse upstairs. This Mer-beth horse! Wow. Happy birthday me!" (She calls Jacob "Jake-bop" and herself Mer-beth instead of Meredith.)

Yeah, once again that was well worth the effort!
